Hammig
With Christian Gottlob Hammig I (1759-1836), the production of woodwind instruments began around 1780, in 1783 a considerable number of piccolo and Traverse flutes as well as clarinets and oboes left the workshop. The profession was inherited from him until the present from son to son or Sons. In contrast to today, the woodwind instrument builders were not yet specialised in an instrument at that time, but built flutes, oboes and clarinets, less often the bassoon. The flutes were used until the beginning of the 20th century. Century built according to Quantz, Meyer or Schwedler systems. Instrument making was only specialised at the Hammigs much later, between 1906 and 1920 by the brothers Philipp Hammig and August Richard Hammig. At first, both learned in their father's company, then August Richard Hammig went to Saarbrücken and Philipp Hammig went to Berlin to the Rittershausen company to learn specialised flute making. In doing so, they brought themselves up to date when it comes to flute construction. Both came back to Markneukirchen after their "training years" to work in their own company.
