Riviere & Hawkes was a respected London manufacturer of woodwind instruments in the 19th century. It originated from the collaboration between flute maker William Riviere and his business partner George Hawkes. The company was active since around the 1850s and was known for finely crafted transverse and transverse flutes made of precious woods. The company headquarters at 28 Leicester Square, as engraved on the flute, was a renowned center for instrument making. Riviere & Hawkes instruments were often prized by professional musicians and are today considered sought-after rarities of Victorian wind instrument making.
